La Manga Club bids farewell to the best MundiAvocat in this competition's history
2,370 people, 104 teams, 37 countries represented, 350 games, 4 winners, and an amazing atmosphere with lots of fun. These are the stats for the MUNDIAVOCAT 2016 which took place in La Manga Club and has been the best tournament in this competition’s 36-year history.
La Manga Club, 23 May 2016 - Both the organisers and the players themselves, have congratulated La Manga Club for the nine-day championship at the resort facilities. According to Pierre Lusinchi, Managing Director of CSO - event organiser, the MUNDIAVOCAT 2016 held at La Manga Club “has been the best since we started the championship 36 years ago”.
Over the 9 days of the tournament, La Manga Club played hosted to 2,370 people, 104 teams from 37 different countries, 350 games and most importantly, 4 winners. The 5-a-side tournament was won by the OAB RJ Barra da Tijuca from Brazil; The team from Murcia won the Legends category; the Masters was won by the Israeli team from Tel Aviv, and Feras da Babylon, another Brazilian team, won the Classic category.
This 18th edition of the tournament also broken several records including the highest number of African teams, the first 5-a-side tournament and the largest number of participating teams in the Masters tournament.
Record number of African teams
The MUNDIAVOCAT 2016 saw a record number of teams from West Africa. Abidjan and Dakar participated for the tenth and eighth consecutive year (respectively) and Cameroon and Benin took part in this championship for the first time.
Japan achieved its best result
There was great success for the Japanese teams this year who participated in every category. In the Legends category, the Japanese team achieved the best result yet at the MUNDIAVOCAT. They battled their way into the top 8 but were later knocked out by Murcia.
Hungary reached the final of the Masters
The Hungarian team is a familiar face at the MUNDIAVOCAT. They have been taking part since 1996 and this year managed to reach the final of the Masters tournament against the Israelis. Hungary has a great passion for football and also more than 10,000 lawyers, a fairly substantial number compared to the size of the country.
First edition of the 5-a-side tournament
La Manga Club football pitches witnessed the first ever edition of the 5-a-side competition. This new category allowed many new teams to participate in this international football tournament for lawyers. 14 countries and 17 teams participated, including a local team from Cartagena.
Masters, Legends and Classic Tournaments
Another record was broken in the Masters tournament. A total of 38 teams from 22 different countries registered to participate, becoming the high number to date.
Meanwhile, a total of 29 teams from 16 countries took part in the Classic tournament. After some great footballing battles the Brazilian team, Feras da Babilonia shone through to win a nail-biting final game against Romania.
The Legends tournament saw a huge rise in teams from just 10 a year ago to an amazing 20 teams this year. On this occasion, 20 teams from 9 different countries took part with Argentina becoming one of the highlights as they managed to sneak 8 teams in the final stages of the competition.
First edition of the Sports Law conference
The 18th edition of MUNDIAVOCAT was also a first for a conference held on sports law. Fifty people attended to improve their knowledge in this specialised area, talks were given in Spanish, French and English by experts in this field.
