The only tennis resort in Spain
Every year a list of the top 100 tennis resorts and camps is published and divided into two major categories: the top 75 tennis resorts and the best 25 tennis camps in the world. Tennis Resort Online asks for the opinion of thousands of travelling tennis fans worldwide and compiles their experiences to form the list. The tennis enthusiasts are asked to value the resorts they visit not only by the quality of the sports facilities, but also the off-court characteristics such as accommodation, restaurants, children´s activities and recreation.
La Manga Club is now ranked as one of the top 75 tennis resorts worldwide. It is the only Tennis Centre in Spain to appear on the list and one of only two in Europe to have been included (the other is located in Austria).
This renowned guide is the go-to place for all tennis fans alike who are looking to plan their next tennis holiday, making it an important list that all resorts aspire to be on.
La Manga Club Tennis Centre
The Tennis Centre at La Manga Club is one of the most complete in all of Spain. It has 28 courts: twenty clay (including one exhibition and one central court - elliptical in shape and can accommodate more than 1,200 spectators), four hard and four with artificial grass. It also has two paddle tennis courts and one squash court.
In addition to the courts themselves, the Tennis Centre offers other facilities such as the racket centre where there is equipment hire and a repair service, the Junior Club (a play area supervised by monitors for children from 3 to 12 years old and is open all year), agymnasium with sauna and Jacuzzi, outdoor swimming pool, mini-golf and a bowling green. In close proximity to the centre are several bars and restaurants, allowing players to regain their strength after a hard day's tennis.
All these facilities have combined to make this one of the most important outdoor tennis centres in Europe. It has hosted important tournaments such as the Fed Cup, Davis Cup, and ATP on more than one occasion.
The Overseas training base for the LTA
For several years, the Tennis Centre at La Manga Club has been the official overseas training base for the LTA (Lawn Tennis Association). This agreement has recently been renewed for a further three years, meaning that throughout the year, big names in British and European tennis can be found training outdoors at La Manga Club. These tennis players come here not only for the fantastic facilities at the centre, but also for the warm temperatures and calm weather which allows this sport to be played here year-round.
Not only the great names in tennis, such as Leon Smith (captain of the Great Britain Davis Cup team), have trained at La Manga Club Tennis Centre, but also many future British tennis stars.
National and European tournaments
La Manga Club Tennis Centre is very active all year and its facilities are regularly used to hold national and European tournaments. Next May, the Spanish Senior Individual Championship along with the Tennis Open in December will attract hundreds of professional and amateur players to La Manga Club sports, leisure and golf resort.
Tennis Academies at La Manga Club
The Tennis Centre at La Manga Club also has a professional tennis academy for adults and children. Group classes and tailored individual lessons are available during the week and at weekends along with intensive courses.
