La Manga Club, 4th May 2017 - For the first time, Spain will host the 'World Golf Awards', the most acknowledged awards to be handed out within the golf tourism industry, which identify and reward excellence in facilities and services. From 23rd to 26th November, La Manga Club will be the perfect host for the fourth edition of these awards, with the celebration of various activities and events. But without a doubt, the highlight of the World Golf Awards will be on Saturday November 25th, with the awards ceremony gala expecting some of the most well-known people within the world of golf tourism to be attending.
In the words of José Asenjo, CEO of La Manga Club, "it is a great honour and privilege to be chosen to host the World Golf Awards for the first time, in what is a landmark year for the resort as we celebrate our 45th anniversary". "Each year the event attracts some of the most respected figures in the golf industry, and we are very excited to take this opportunity to show off our many world-class golf courses and leisure facilities to a worldwide audience and we look forward to welcoming everyone here in November," concludes Asenjo.
La Manga Club nominated for various categories
La Manga Club returns as one of the candidates to win various international awards since the resort has been selected for two of the coveted 'World Golf Awards', considered the Oscars of the golf world. In this 2017 edition, La Manga Club is nominated for 'Europe’s Best Golf Venue' and 'Spain’s Best Golf Course' (for its South Course). In 2011, 2012 and 2013, La Manga Club was already nominated as the best residential complex in Europe and, in that same year of 2013, was nominated for the best sports resort in Europe. In 2014 and 2015, the Prince Felipe 5* Hotel of La Manga Club won the 'World Golf Awards' as the best golf hotel in Spain.
La Manga Club has been considered as the best golf destination in Europe for being an exclusive tourist, sports and residential resort that takes advantage of its magnificent surroundings to offer luxury, leisure and sport, with a privileged climate throughout the year and under exceptional security and privacy. Today La Manga Club covers an area of 560 hectares and boasts varied and extensive facilities comprising of: a five-star hotel, four-star apartments, three golf courses, a tennis centre with twenty eight courts, eight FIFA-sized football pitches, a wellness centre of 2,000 m² and a wide gastronomic selection with more than 15 bars and restaurants
Another nomination was for their South Course, which has been the venue for several top-level professional tournaments, such as various Spanish Opens, the PGA Championships and some European tours. It has nearly 6,500 metres from the white tees, with water hazards in 15 of its 18 holes and a few hidden hazards. The outward nine holes are particularly complicated, with two par 3s over 200 metres and a few challenging par 4s requiring driving the game between lakes and bunkers. The back nine holes, although shorter, have several doglegs.
The resort has two more golf courses: the North course, designed by the prestigious Robert Dean Putman and the West course by Dave Thomas, in addition to the Pitch & Putt by Severiano Ballesteros, which makes La Manga Club the ideal place to practice golf in Murcia.
