López Miras welcomes the AEGOLF

The president of the autonomous community of Murcia, Fernando López Miras, today welcomed the AEGOLF RM (Association of Golf Employers in the Region of Murcia), who revealed their strategy plan for the coming year, their objectives and concerns, as well as their support for the development of regional tourism. Representing the association were Joaquín Medina, president of AEGOLF, and José Asenjo, general director of La Manga Club.

La Manga Club, 3rd of November, 2017: Tourism in the region of Murcia was the main topic in the meeting that was held this morning in the palace of San Esteban. The president of the autonomous community of Murcia welcomed the AEGOLF (Association of Golf Employers in the Region of Murcia), represented by its president (Joaquín Medina) and the CEO and general director of La Manga Club, José Asenjo. On their visit, the two representatives of AEGOLF presented the president with details of the association, mainly its objectives and concerns, as well as their strategic plan for 2018 and their support in the development of tourism in the Murcia region.

The association recently expanded its number of partners, its objectives and the plan of action for the coming year of which the president was recently made aware. Among the principal objectives, according to the comments of José Asenjo, is to promote of the practice of golf and further golf tourism in the region of Murcia, contributing as a sustainable industry and a generator of employment. According to a study conducted with data from 2015, golf tourism generates 225 million euros (8.1% of the GDP for the region) and attracts 25% of new tourists in the area. It was calculated that around 4200 employees directly and indirectly are linked to the industry of golf in the Murcia region.

The AEGOLF was formed in April of 2005 with the objective of representing businesses in the region of Murcia that are dedicated to the operation of golf courses and all the services related to the sporting activity. Among the pre-requisites to form this association, the following area is of particular importance: the obligation to generate quality employment, and that this in turn guarantees a process of environmental care (waste recycling, energy impact reduction plans, efficient management of water resources, etc.). “This is a commitment that we will always keep,” commented the representatives of AEGOLF, “as is our strong support towards the development of tourism in the region of Murcia, in this instance, within the sector of golf tourism.”
