Strachan and Dalglish go Alda way for charity at La Manga Club
Scotland football legends Gordon Strachan and Kenny Dalglish were among the top names joining in the fun at La Manga Club as they helped the famous Spanish resort raise a further €20,000 for under-privileged children in South America this month.
La Manga Club, 16th August 2017 – Scotland manager Strachan and ex-Liverpool and Celtic star Dalglish teamed up with other leading figures from the world of sport, dignitaries and guests to help the award-winning venue match the total it raised for the Alda Foundation – which helps to educate poor youngsters in Paraguay – in 2016.
The pair were on hand to offer advice and assist with a junior football coaching session as part of their roles as ambassadors for La Manga Club during a week of fundraising activities at the resort in Murcia, south-east Spain. Taking place from July 29 to August 4, the Alda Charity Week – which featured cloudless skies and temperatures of 40-plus degrees throughout – also offered the chance to take part in tennis and golf family fun days. In addition, guests and residents were treated to a tennis exhibition match between former world number nine Nicolas Almagro and Daniel Muñoz de la Nava before the fundraising week was brought to a spectacular climax with a glittering Alda gala dinner.
Compered by Strachan and PY Gerbeau, La Manga Club’s non-executive chairman, the audience of around 100 dignitaries and guests enjoyed a 1920s-themed moonlit gala dinner including live music, and a charity raffle and auction.
This year’s Alda Charity Week helped to embellish a sporting and leisure extravaganza of activities and choice available to families taking a holiday at La Manga Club this summer. Included in these were the resort’s popular White Night evenings , where guests had the chance to experience the spirit of Ibiza with moonlit beach dinner parties at the resort’s own Mediterranean cove with live cooking stations, cocktails, and chill-out DJ sets, and La Manga Club hosting the official FC Barcelona Football Junior Club Camp for the fourth year in a row last month.
In addition, the venue continues to offer has a wide range of sporting academies for children of all ages to enjoy over summer and autumn including tuition packages at its world-renowned tennis centre and recently-opened Golf Training Centre. Widely regarded as Spain’s flagship resort, La Manga Club – the official overseas training base of the Lawn Tennis Association – has won numerous leading accolades in recent years including being voted ‘Best Golf Resort in Spain’ by UK readers of Today’s Golfer magazine for the sixth year in a row.
