La Manga Club to host World Golf Awards for second consecutive year

For the second year in a row, the exclusive resort will be the venue for these prestigious international golf awards, commonly known as the Oscarsof golf. The World Golf Awards will take place from 1 to 4 November at La Manga Club, the second time they have been held in Spain. The complex is once again in the running for several awards at this edition, such as the Best European golf destination, among others.

La Manga Club, 13 June 2018 . From 1 to 4 November La Manga Club will host the gala of the prestigious international World Golf Awards, known popularly as the “Oscars of golf”, which identify and award excellence in the facilities and services of different golf courses around the world. This is the second time that these prizes have been held in Spain and the organisers have once again chosen this exclusive complex, for the second year in a row, in order to host the fifth edition. Different activities and events will take place over three days, and the awards ceremony will take place on Saturday 3 November, and will be attended by the most notable figures from the world of golf tourism.

Eduardo Ruiz, the director general of Sport at La Manga Club explained that “it is a great honour and privilege to be chosen again this year as the hosts of the World Golf Awards, and for the organisation to have placed its trust in us for the second consecutive year”. “Every year the event attracts some of the most respected figures in the golf industry, and we are delighted to once again have the opportunity to present our golf courses and leisure facilities to a key worldwide audience” concluded Eduardo Ruiz.

La Manga Club is competing for several of the awards, considered the “Oscars of the golf world”. At this edition it has been nominated for “Best European golf destination”, “Best Spanish golf course”, and “Best golf hotel in Spain”. Last year, the exclusive resort was chosen as the “Best European golf destination” and its 5* Príncipe Felipe hotel was selected as the “Best golf hotel in Spain”, an award it also obtained in 2014 and 2015.

National and international recognition

It is not the first time that the exclusive resort has received recognitions in the golf sector. The most recent of them was the granting of the title of Real Club de Golf La Manga(La Manga Royal Golf Club) by His Majesty the King . This title is only granted to leading golf clubs that are at least 25 years old.

Furthermore, the editors of the American magazine Golf Digest selected La Manga Club as the 2017 “Best International Resort”, and at the start of the year, for the sixth consecutive year, it was named Spain's Best Golf Resort by the British magazine Today’s Golfer, one of the most prestigious international magazines.

The readers of Ultratravel, the luxury travel magazine of the British newspaper The Telegraph, once again included La Manga Club, for the third consecutive year, in the list of the word's give best golf resorts, and it was the only nominee from continental Europe. In turn, the Royal Spanish Golf Federation awarded the Plaque for Merit to the resort for its important work in the interests of golf, as well as its support and promotion, both with Spain and abroad. Also, La Manga Club was the only Spanish golf complex with its three courses featuring among the top 40 of the prestigious publication Top 100 Golf Courses.

The golf facilities at La Manga Club include three 18-hole courses: the North course, designed by the prestigious Robert Dean Putman; the South course, devised by Putman and then remodelled by Arnold Palmer; the West course, created by Dave Thomas; as well as the Pitch & Putt, designed by Severiano Ballesteros, perfect for improving your short game, and we should not forget about the Practice Centre, considered the best in Europe, and the new “La Manga Club Golf Training Centre”, with its new concept of teaching led by the renowned coach Thomas Johansson and his team. The complex makes ongoing improvements every year in order to maintain the quality that characterises it.
