La Manga Club, July 13th 2017 - The official resort partner for Tennis Europe and the official overseas training base for the British Tennis Federation, formally known as the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), La Manga Club continues accumulating recognition as being one of the best Tennis Resorts in the world. The characteristics of the facilities and its unique setting, located next to the Regional Park of Calblanque (Cartagena, Murcia) and the Mediterranean Sea, make the resort the ideal location to train in this sport for both professionals and tennis fans alike.
The latest addition to La Manga Club’s awards list is from the international specialist tennis guide, “Tennis Resorts Online”. The complex has been included in its list of the Top 75 clubs in the world and in the Top 25 academies. La Manga Club is one of only two Spanish resorts to be selected amongst the Top 75 in the world and the only Spanish complex in the Top 25 academies. The evaluation criteria used are related to the sport itself, above all looking at the training sessions on offer, the instructors, the techniques used, etc., but also take into account other factors such as accommodation, convenience, gastronomy, amongst other important features.
Additionally, La Manga Club has also been selected as one of the five best Tennis Resorts in the world by the distinguished British publication, “The Week”. The magazine evaluated several different factors when creating the ranking list, such as the facilities of the complex, the services it provides, as well as the instructors that run the academies. The resort is the only Spanish representative on the ranking list, with the other four resorts being in Cornwall, Algarve, Sardinia and Greece. The main reason leading to this award has been the condition of the resort as the official overseas training base for the British Tennis Federation or the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and its excellent facilities, where professionals like Andy Murray and Jo Konta have trained. The magazine has also taken into account the Tennis Academy and its daily or intensive training programmes.
The Tennis Centre at La Manga Club consists of 28 courts, 20 of which are clay (including the Exhibition Court and Centre Court, the latter with a capacity of 1,200 spectators), 4 hard courts, 4 artificial grass courts, 2 paddle courts and one for squash. Due to these world class facilities, it has become the overseas training base for the British Tennis Federation, otherwise known as the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), the overseas training base for internationally renowned professionals and the preferred destination for families to come and play tennis. On multiple occasions, it has been the host to prestigious tournaments such as the Davis Cup, Fed Cup and the ATP.
It also offers other services such a a racket centre with rackets to hire or buy, as well as a re-stringing and grip service (available on request), gym, the Oasis outdoor swimming pool, minigolf, Lawn bowls and the Junior Club for kids aged 3 months to 12 years.
La Manga Club’s track record and experience is backed up by the successful organisation of tournaments, competitions and other sporting events, as well as the sporting academies the resort holds in a number of sporting disciplines: golf, tennis, football, rugby, triathlon, cricket, mountain biking – to name but a few!
La Manga Club also keeps expanding its alliances with other important organisations in the sector, to ensure that it keep offering the highest quality possible in the sport. With this in mind, the complex has extended its collaboration agreement with Tennis Europe, the biggest tennis association in the whole of Europe comprising of 50 federations, until 2018. From this, La Manga Club continues being the ‘official resort collaborator’ for Tennis Europe, an agreement first reached in 2010.
Competition Academy in the Tennis Centre
La Manga Club has a Competition Academy in the Tennis Centre, the perfect option for those players of a high level that want to improve and develop their playing techniques and that, upon signing up to the academy, already have a training programme and a calendar full of competitions. This academy is specifically designed for high level junior players who can compete, or have already competed, on the local, regional, national or international circuit.
The training programme, the only one of its kind in the Region of Murcia, works in an intensive manner consisting of daily 5-hour sessions with a series of specific exercises, techniques and movements to challenge and increase the understanding and knowledge of the modern game for each participant. These groups are formed of an instructor and a maximum of four players. These young, promising tennis stars will make the most of their potential in the Competition Academy, which will examine players' ball control, tactics, movement across the court, technique, game situations and mental strength, etc.
For those who wish to perfect their technique, La Manga Club offers a combination of training on the courts, led by a team of very experienced and multilingual professionals, following a unique method, as the coaches adapt themselves to the needs of the client. The Director of the academies, James Rose, is in charge of all the programmes. James has many years’ experience as a coach, having been the director of Female Tennis in one of the LTA’s High Performance Centres in London.
