Golf at La Manga Club: professional tips on how to play the Hole 14 on the South course

Golf: Hole 14 on the South Course - La Manga Club

La Manga Club, 10th November 2017. The South Course at La Manga Club course is, without doubt, the best golf course in Murcia and one of the best courses in Spain. It has hosted many major professional tournaments, amongst which are various Spanish Opens, PGA Championships and European Tour qualifying schools. It is almost 6500 metres from the white tees, with water hazards on 15 of its 18 holes and few hidden dangers.

The front nine are particularly challenging with two par 3s in excess of 200 metres, and some daunting par 4s which call for accurate driving between lakes and bunkers. The back nine, although shorter, has a number of intriguing dog-leg holes.

Practical tips: how to play hole 14 of the South Course

Par 4 – Handicap 9 – White: 340 metres Yellow: 330 metres Blue: 318 metres  Red: 302 metres

Hole 14 is one of the more complex par 4's on the route. It has a large waste area on the central/right side of the fairway, with dimensions of more than 50 metres in width and 140 metres in length.

This means that the majority of players who misplace their shot end up in this "giant bunker". Ideally, you'd want to land short of the obstacle so that for your second shot you again use a mid to long iron to get clear. Only the bravest and hardest hitters will find themselves with a driver in hand and attempting to land in the narrowest of zones on the fairway. Good luck defeating this arena's complication.
