Sandra Ibarra is a role model in the fight against cancer. At a very young age she battled with and overcame leukaemia twice, and now dedicates all her time and energy to helping cancer patients to live with cancer and beat the illness. She has been actively working for her own foundation, Fundación Sandra Ibarra de Solidaridad Frente al Cáncer, for 15 years and as an ambassador for the Messengers of Peace, raises funds for research into the well-being of cancer patients. She has also published books on her own experience in addition to the many other projects she undertakes in aid of charity.
Her work has earned her public recognition, well reflected in the words of the then Prince of Asturias (currently King Felipe VI of Spain) in September 2007, referring to her “generous, tireless and praiseworthy work as a person loved and known by all, who has been able to transmit a message full of hope to thousands of people affected by cancer”.
