The most popular street markets in and around Cartagena

It could be said that there is a destination for every type of traveller: one for those who are looking for a relaxing experience to disconnect, another for adventure lovers, those who prefer to get to know the day-to-day life of their destination, or those who travel with their family. And then there are destinations as versatile as Cartagena, which offers plans for all of them, making it an essential place to visit without leaving the country.

If there is one thing Cartagena is known for, it is because its streets breathe history and in every corner it is possible to find the influence of different cultures. But there are other ways of getting to know the city that can delight all travellers, such as the street markets in Cartagena.

The history of the Cartagena market dates back to the city's Arab period. However, it was not until May 1266 when it obtained the support of the Spanish crown during the reign of Alfonso X. A tradition that has survived to the present day and which has multiplied, with popular street markets being held throughout the Cartagena region, and not only in the capital.

Although it is true that it is possible to enjoy street markets all year round, the most famous ones take place mainly in the summer season, between the months of June and September. Bohemia Square Flea Market

The Bohemia Square Flea Market is one of the most popular markets in La Manga del Mar Menor.

It is one of the best known markets in Cartagena and also one of the best places to take a stroll on a summer evening and have an ice cream or a lemon granita while you browse the stalls of the artisans.

Among the stalls of this market you can find all kinds of handicrafts, decoration, costume jewellery, natural cosmetic products or hippy-style clothes with which to better withstand the high summer temperatures.

This market is active from Friday of Sorrows to Easter Sunday from 2pm to 12 midnight, and also from 15 June to 15 September from 5pm to 2am.

La Sal craft market

The La Sal craft market is one of the most important markets in the Region of Murcia and is held throughout the year. The peculiarity is that its location varies depending on the time of year. From September to June it is located in the Explanada de Lo Pagán, while in July and August it is held in the Parque de los Reyes de España in San Pedro del Pinatar.

This is one of the most complete markets in Cartagena, as you can find embroidery, ceramics, costume jewellery, handmade soaps, natural cosmetics and typical products from the market gardens of Murcia.

What's the date? The third Sunday of every month. From September to June from 10am to 2pm, and in July and August from 8pm.

Los Alcázares craft market

The good weather is the best ally of the markets in the Region of Murcia, such as the Los Alcázares Craft Market. This market is held from July to September and fills the evenings of the town of Los Alcázares with life.

This market takes place in the Plaza del Espejo every Saturday from 6 pm to 12 midnight, and in its more than 50 stalls you can find clothes, costume jewellery, decoration and typical Murcian food products.
