La Manga Club bids farewell to the Alda Foundation Charity Sports Week

Golf, tennis and football have been the three sporting activities that took place over the duration of the week. The Alda Foundation held this charitable event using the resorts facilities for the second consecutive year. Though their registration fees, all of the participants contributed to this fantastic cause, helping the most disadvantaged children in Paraguay.

La Manga Club, 3rd August 2017 – The main focus this week at La Manga Club has been the different sporting tournaments and events that have taken place in the resort all supporting the Alda Foundation, a non-profit organisation that works to help the most disadvantaged children in Paraguay. On Friday 4th August, tomorrow, the habitual Charity Gala Dinner will also take place, which is the fourth edition of the charity dinner.

The Charity Sports Week started on Saturday 29th July with a golf tournament being held on the South Course, teeing off with a shotgun start and playing in pairs using the scramble format. It was a tournament that united different family members: parents and sons, brothers, uncles, etc. The golf tournament finished with an awards ceremony and a cocktail. The winning pairs, in this edition, were: 1st José A. Hernández Cañadas- José Bernardo González Sánchez; 2nd Antonio Ros Peñalver - José Hernández Martínez; 3rd Eduardo David Ruiz Méndez – Chad Harpur; 4th Ricardo Martínez Cereijo – José María Martínez Villena; and 5th María Cruz Molina Morena – Carlos Sánchez Macías.

Another family day was held on the following Sunday, 30th July, at the Tennis Centre in La Manga Club. Throughout the day, parents and children enjoyed a variety of activities and racket games, with all the proceeds again going towards the Alda Foundation. Another important aspect of the day was the exhibition match played between our pros. To end the day, the participants received a shirt and a certificate as a souvenir of the day, as well as exquisite paella and a visit from our mascot, Max.

The last sporting meeting of the week was football, which took place yesterday. The Scotland manager, Gordon Strachan, has been at the front of the organisation of this event. Another charitable event that over 100 children attended with their families, who were able to enjoy the sympathy of the Scottish ex-footballer, as well as gaining from his advice, photographs, autographs and most importantly, loads of fun! Another famous personality that wanted to help the Alda Foundation was Kenny Dalglish, who was a professional footballer for over 20 years, playing for teams like Celtic and Liverpool, amongst other teams.

The World Cup tournament then started, which was also supervised by the Scottish coach and who was at all times very attentive to the boys and girls aged between 7 and 16 who participated. At the end of the week, all of the participants received an Alda Foundation shirt so they will not forget the day that they trained with Gordon Strachan and Kenny Dalglish.

Once again, there were high levels of participation in the second edition of the Charity Sports Week supporting the Alda Foundation. The week will culminate tomorrow with the traditional Gala Dinner, which will be attended by over 200 people. A week packed full of surprises, performances, live music, awards and an auction where you can bid for Wimbledon, Ryder Cup or Augusta Masters tickets.
