Hopes are high that Germany champions FCA 04 United Stars Cricket Club Darmstadt can go one better than last year’s German representatives SG Findorff who reached the final of the 2019 European Cricket League before succumbing to “Kings of Europe” V.O.C. Rotterdam.
Darmstadt saw off ECL19 runners-up Findorff in an exciting German T20 final to secure a place at ECL20 and are confident that German internationals Abdul-Shakoor Rahimzei and Muhammad Mudassar can carry them to the latter stages.
Mudassar, a hard-hitting frontline batsman, was ECL Founder Daniel Weston’s opening partner for Germany for several years, while talented all-rounder Rahimzei has been a proven performer for both club and country in recent seasons.
In 2017, Shakoor saw the Germany U19 side to victory against the famous Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), needing 21 to win, Shakoor blasted a barrage of boundaries to win with a ball to spare.
V.O.C. Rotterdam were crowned Kings of European cricket when they won the first edition of the European Cricket League (ECL) in magnificent fashion at La Manga Club in Spain. Naturally, the “Kings of Europe”, V.O.C. Rotterdam will automatically return to defend their majestic trophy between May 31 and June 7, 2020.
The second-staging of the tournament - ECL20 - promises to be even bigger and better. Due to huge interest and demand for the competition, ECL20 will expand its number of champion teams - spread over eight days of exciting fast-paced T10 action.
We welcome Darmstadt to the 2020 European Cricket League.
