Latina loving life at ECL for Italy
The first edition of the European Cricket League (ECL19) famously went into legend after unearthing a new cricketing superstar in the shape of Pavel Florin. President and star attraction at Romania champions Cluj, there are definitely shades of Pavel with our new Italian representatives Latina Cricket Club.
That said, Dharminder Singh’s multiple Italian Job description at champions Latina takes this to a whole new level. Dharminder Singh is Latina President, club captain and opening batsman. If that’s not enough, one of nine different Singh’s in the Latina line-up, Dharminder just so happens to own the ground, three hectares in size and the first private ground in Italy.
“2019 was an incredible season for Latina,” said Mr Latina Dharminder Singh. "Over the last few years we have consistently achieved a good record in Italian cricket. We are looking forward to taking our chance on the international stage and playing against the best of Europe in ECL20."
Latina sealed their passage to ECL20 by beating Rome Bangla Morning Sun in the final of Italy’s T20 competition and carried away Coppa Italia honours to complete a marvellous domestic double.
Top run scorer Charanjeet Singh is a batsman to watch at ECL20, while fast bowler Hashmat Dhindsa racked up over 60 wickets last season.
V.O.C. Rotterdam were crowned Kings of European cricket when they won the first edition of the European Cricket League (ECL) in magnificent fashion. Naturally, the “Kings of Europe”, V.O.C. Rotterdam will automatically return to defend their majestic trophy between May 31 and June 7, 2020 at La Manga Club in Spain.
The second-staging of the tournament - ECL20 - promises to be even bigger and better. Due to huge interest and demand for the competition, ECL20 is set to double its number of champion teams to 16 - spread over eight days of exciting fast-paced T10 action.
We welcome Italy’s Latina Cricket Club to the 2020 European Cricket League.
