5 June 2022 - The loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta) has in recent years significantly increased its nesting attempts along the western Mediterranean coast. This is probably due to global warming and many mothers seek higher latitudes for nesting. This means more successful and better sex ratioed incubations, as sea turtles define their sex according to incubation temperature.
Coinciding with World Environment Day, a beach clean-up was held on 5 June on the beaches of the Calblanque Regional Park to allow these turtles to lay their eggs in an area free of plastics and in a cleaner environment.
