La Manga Club, 'Europe's Best Golf Venue' and 'Spain's Best Golf Hotel' at the World Golf Awards

La Manga Club receives two of the best awards at the World Golf Awards, 2017

La Manga Club has received two of the most recognised awards this weekend at the World Golf Awards gala, both major accomplishments on an internationally prestigious level, popularly known as the Oscars of golf. The prize-winners and various figures representing the world of golf were able to enjoy different activities at the complex including the gala dinner on Saturday 25th at the Principe Felipe 5* Hotel, now known as Spain's Best Golf Hotel due to these celebrations.

La Manga Club, 27th of November, 2017.- This weekend, La Manga Club has been awarded two of the most prestigious prizes in the World Golf Awards, an internationally prestigious organisation popularly known as the Oscars of the golf industry, The exclusive resort has been chosen as 'Europe's Best Golf Venue' and equally, its Principe Felipe 5* Hotel has been selected to be 'Spain's Best Golf Hotel'. The complex has taken home two out of only five recognitions awarded to Spanish establishments at the fourth annual gala.

Specifically, La Manga Club was chosen this year by the prestigious organisation to host the awards that were celebrated for the first time in their history in Spain. From the 23rd to the 26th of November, the resort was the setting for variety of activities, including golf tournaments and social events, that form a key part of the award-winners' and golfing personalities' experiences, truely allowing them to enjoy their weekend at the complex's luxurious facilities. Participants originating from more than 40 countries across every continent enjoyed their time and celebrations at La Manga Club, coinciding with its 45th anniversary.

The awards gala took place on Saturday the 25th of November with cocktails, and later a gourmet dinner in one of the halls in the Principe Felipe 5* Hotel. The event attracted the presence of many of the region of Murcia's authorities, such as the spokesperson for the regional Government, Noelia Arroyo; the General Director of Tourism at the Institute of Tourism for the region of Murcia, Manuel Fernández-Delgado; the Councilor of Tourism for Cartagena, Obdulla Gómez; and the President of the Golf Ferederation for the region of Murcia, Pepe Jover. Moreover, many golfing legends attended, such as Peter Alliss or even recognised players like Andrew Coltart and Chris Wilson, among others.

Representing the organisations was the director of the World Golf Awards, Chris Frost, and from La Manga Club, the general director, José Asenjo; the director of Sales and Marketing, Brendan Dwyer; the director of golf, Eduardo Ruiz; the director of Operations, Javier Armas and the presidents of the General Owners' Community at La Manga Club, John Douglass and Caroline Douglass were all present.

One of the most exciting moments was seen to be when Jack Nicklaus, considered by many to be the best golfer in history, nicknamed Golden Bear, won the award for 'Year's Best Golf Course Designer'. The general director of La Manga Club, José Asenjo, collected the award for Europe's Best Golf Hotel for La Manga Club, a moment in which he took the opportunity to highlight the 'daily work that is carried out on the resort to offer excellence in quality and service to our clients and guests in order that they obtain a truly unique experience.' The award for the Spain's Best Golf Hotel given to La Manga Club's Principe Felipe 5* Hotel was collected by the director of Sales and Marketing for the complex, Brendan Dwyer. These two awards that served to put the finishing touch on a weekend throughout which golf was the headlining act in this corner of the Costa Cálida.

Furthermore, throughout the whole weekend, the guests were able to make the most of a variety of activities, such as playing golf, receiving spa treatments at the Wellness Centre and a welcome dinner.

International and national recognitions

It’s not the first time that the exclusive resort has received plaudits and recognition in the golf sector. The most recent of these was the granting of his majesty the King’s title Real Club” (Royal Club), a title that only golf clubs that have achieved excellence for at least 25 years can achieve.

Furthermore, the editors of the American magazine ‘Golf Digest’ have awarded La Manga Club the title of Best International Resort in 2017 and at the start of the year the club received, for the sixth consecutive year, the award for Spain’s Best Golf Resort from the British magazine `Today’s Golfer’, one of the most internationally prestigious accolades of its kind.

The readers of Ultratravel, the luxury travel magazine from the British publicist The Telegraph, included La Manga Club for the third consecutive yeay, in the list of the Five Best Gold Resorts in the World, as the only nomination from the European continent. On top of this, the Spanish Royal Federation of Golf granted La Manga Club the Plaque of Merit for their outstanding performance in relation to golf, as well as its promotion and support both inside and outside of our borders. Additionally, La Manga Club has been the only Spanish golf complex to have all of its three courses placed in the Top 40 from the prestigious publication Top 100 Golf Courses..

Golf at La Manga Club

The facilities at La Manga Club include three 18 hole golf courses: the North Course, designed by the prestigious Robert Dean Putman; the South Course, originally by Putman and remodelled afterwards by Arnold Palmer; the West Course, created by Dave Thomas; as well as the Pitch and Putt by Severiano Ballesteros, a perfect spot to practise one's short game. Let's not forget about the Practise Centre, considered to be the best in Europe, and the new Golf Academy "La Manga Club Golf Training Centre", with a new training concept directed by the reputed instructor Thomas Johansson and his team.

The enclave continues to improve every year and to keep maintaining this excellent level of quality that it is renowned for. Also, the rennovation of the buggie bus and golf shop is underway among other pending developments to continually improve the customer experience.
